Repetitive mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI/concussion) and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) have been called the "signature injuries" of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars and are major sources of morbidity, but diagnoses and treatment options are limited. Blast exposure is the primary source of mTBI and gives rise to a multi-factorial behavioral and pathophysiological syndrome highly comorbid with PTSD.
